Jewel-Osco’s Sycamore location hosts ribbon cutting ceremony today
April 22, 2008
Jewel-Osco is expanding its locations into Sycamore.
The new Sycamore Jewel-Osco, 220 W. Peace Road, will host its Grand Opening today. The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.
The construction started in August for the 63,000 square-foot building and finished in early April, Sycamore Building Commissioner Lyle Doty said.
“From my personal opinion, I think it’ll be a nice asset to the community,” Doty said. “Hopefully, it’ll keep people shopping locally.”
The new store has more than 175 new and transferred employees. The store also houses a TCF Bank.
Fourteen employees – some starting as early as December – were trained at the DeKalb Osco and transferred to the Sycamore store, said Dave Nessler, DeKalb Osco Store Director.
“There are a few Sycamore people who come in here that say they are going to be happy to see a new store come up in Sycamore,” Nessler said. “I think it’ll be more convenient for the people who live out in Sycamore.”
Cary Saladino, store manager for the new Sycamore Jewel-Osco, transferred to the new Sycamore store from the Huntley Jewel-Osco and has been working for Jewel for over 30 years.
“I am pleased to come to the market. Everyone in the town has been so great and welcoming,” Saladino said. “Everyone is so excited for us to come into Sycamore, which makes it all the more exciting for us to be there.”
