On celebration …

“Now that the King Memorial Commons celebration has been successfully completed, can the administration explain the choice of its date? The date was a sacred religious holiday for another minority group. How can the administration be so callous as to plan a ceremony celebrating cultural pluralism on a day it excluded another group?”

On elections …

“Concerning the Stevenson North Council Hall elections, I tried to vote for hall council vice president Monday night at dinner. Unfortunately I was unable to cast my vote because they had run out of ballots. Who runs this operation? Bozo the Clown?”

On stories …

“This is just a suggestion. If you read all the sports stories, they don’t once mention what sport is being written about. You can figure it out by reading into the story or looking at the pictures but I think it would be a real service to the readers if the name of the sport was mentioned.”

On letters …

“I’m replying to the letter in today’s [Oct. 5] paper that refers to rap artists as bands. I have no respect for bands that don’t write their own music. All they do is sample stuff from other bands. I think raps music stinks. Who needs them here anyway.”

On CAB concerts …

“Kris Kross? How old are they?”

On Columns …

“I just want to say that Kevin Lyons’ column [Oct. 5] was the best I’ve read in the paper. He was on the money and brought up some very good points why NIU might not be such a great place. It struck a nerve with me at least. Keep up the good work, Lyons, whoever you are.”

“I would really appreciate it if Markos and Pete could get through a movie review column without revealing the end of the movie. I think that would greatly improve their feature.”

On Cartoons …

“I’m sick of reading those ‘Adventure of Larry’ comics in the ‘Spider Gus’ ‘toon. They’re all stupid and pointless. The self-help ones are usually pretty good, but the ‘Adventures of Larry’ stink.”

“I just wanted to say on the ‘Spider Gus’ toon, by Adam Bain, that he should continue the ‘Adventures of Larry’ because it’s truly sick and twisted.”

“I just think that this Adam Bain, who writes ‘Spider Gus,’ is in some serious need of help.”

Miscellaneous …

“I want my Andy Plonka.”

“I would like somebody to tell me if Gacy was convicted of killing 33 people in 1980 why he’s still sitting in a jail somewhere and was not swinging from a rope back in 1980 or 1981.”

“Am I missing something or what? The former Days Inn says [they changed their name] in order to make it more family oriented. Family oriented? They decided to change the name to University Inn. I must be missing something.”

“Jan, in response to your comment. Sox kick butt!”

“I was glad to see the picture of the Delta Sigs in the paper. Now I know what they’re doing. Before I thought they were just trying to be Bobby and Cindy Brady.”
