Women’s tennis team falls to Miami and BSU

The NIU women’s tennis team did not have the advantage in its regular season.

The Huskies (3-13 overall, 1-7 MAC) managed one point on their weekend road trip. NIU started the trip with a 7-0 loss to Miami (Ohio) and finished with a 6-1 loss to Ball State.

Miami (13-6 overall, 7-1 MAC) controlled the tempo of the match. Only NIU’s No. 4 singles player, Brooke Forsberg, won more than three games in a set. The sophomore played Redhawks’ senior Kelly Douple,

The Huskies couldn’t win a set in any of Friday’s matches. The rest of the weekend wasn’t much better for NIU.

The only point for the Huskies against BSU (9-5 overall, 2-5 MAC) came from the double matches. NIU’s No. 1 doubles team Nao Umemura and Brooke Forsberg edged Ball State’s No. 1 doubles team 8-6 and No. 2 doubles team Lilian Asuaje and Katie Friedlund took care of BSU’s Sophie Quist and Georgina Thompson 8-2.

Only Friedlund was able to win a set in singles play, winning the first set against Ball State’s Jennifer Pollack 6-4. However, Friedlund went on to lose the next two sets 6-0, 6-3.
