Bill Foster defeated Jim Oberweis in the 14th District’s March 8 special election.

The election was held to fill the seat for the remaining term of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Foster won with 53 percent of the overall vote and 56 percent of the vote in DeKalb County, according to the county’s Web site.

Despite this being his fourth high-profile election loss, Oberweis has yet to give up.

“I am disappointed we’ve come out second,” said Jim Oberweis in a March 9 Chicago Tribune article. “We’ve made some great friends and we’re going to have another run in about seven months.”

Oberweis, along with other candidates, will have another chance to fill the congressional seat for the full two-year term come November’s general elections.

Foster appears eager to campaign against Oberweis again in the coming months, despite the expensive and “negative” campaigning done for the recent special election.

“We have a different style, a different approach and a different stance on the issues, but he ran a hard campaign and he deserves our appreciation for participating in this great democracy,” Foster said in his March 8 victory speech. “We’ll be doing it all again in November, so I won’t say anything too nice that might show up in one of his ads.”
