A 25-year-old female driver died after a two-vehicle accident in DeKalb Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m., the driver was northbound in the 300 block of South Eighth Street at the intersection of Franklin Street when they went through the yielded intersection and were struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Franklin.

The vehicle traveling northbound on Eighth Street then went into a yard on the northeast corner of Eighth and Franklin streets and struck the front of a house. No one in the house was injured.

Both drivers were transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. The northbound driver on South Eighth Street that disobeyed the yield sign was later pronounced dead. The driver of the other car was released.

The name of the driver has not been released as of press time.

Brent Peters, 43, of DeKalb, was taking out his garbage down the street when he heard what he described as a “boom.” When he went to find the source, he saw the northbound car jump the curb and go into the house.

Armando Alamia, 49, of DeKalb, whose mother owns the house the vehicle crashed into, arrived at the scene about seven minutes after the accident occurred. Alamia said his niece, nephew and mother heard a loud bang and called the police.
