Track of the Day: ‘Our Song’ by Taylor Swift

By LINDSEY KASTNING

From the album “Taylor Swift” (2006)

Country artist Taylor Swift sings about the tenderness and innocence of young love in her track “Our Song.”

“Cause our song is the slamming screen door, sneaking out late, tapping on his window / When we’re on the phone and he talks real slow, ‘cause it’s late and his mama don’t know.”

With the sweet Southern accent and stunning vocal talent, Swift offers a song that people of all ages in love can feel. Although the song speaks of two teenagers in love and how their song is made up of all the little things they do, anyone can understand the truth behind her words. It is every little moment spent together, every precious comforting whisper and the time just holding each other that make a relationship beautiful.

“Our Song” is one of Swift’s tracks that was released in 2006 that made a name for her among the great female country artists such as Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood.

Although Swift may still have some growing up to do, “Our Song” proves that she is ready to rock the country music stage with her mature ideas about love and is truly not afraid to bare all her emotions in her lyrics.

“I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car / I grabbed a pen and an old napkin, and I wrote down our song.”

Next time, when out for a drive, listen to Swift’s track and it will seem as if she is sitting there telling you about the last car ride she took with her boyfriend, and it may even be imaginable to see the smile on her face when she speaks of the moment that she and her love found a song they could call their own.

After such a personal song, it is clear that Swift will have many more tracks to offer over the course of her career that will touch and inspire those looking for, and who are already, in love.
