Sycamore woman airlifted after roll-over accident

A Sycamore woman was flown by helicopter to a Rockford hospital following a roll-over accident on Route 23 on Monday.

At 10:47 a.m., the Sycamore woman was driving southbound into the Farm and Fleet parking lot off Route 23 when her vehicle collided with a Jeep Liberty, causing it to tip to its side.

The driver was trapped in her vehicle until the Sycamore Fire Department arrived, cut the roof from the car and removed her. The fire department attempted to stabilize the driver at the scene, and she was flown to a hospital in Rockford by a medevac helicopter that landed in the Farm and Fleet parking lot, said Lt. Cary Singer of the Sycamore Police Department.

Singer, who was on the scene, did not know the extent of the driver’s injuries but said they must have been substantial to be transported via helicopter from the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, also from Sycamore, reported no injuries and was brought home.

Singer said the accident is under investigation and police are working with witnesses to reconstruct the accident.
