Magic: The Gathering (MTG) fans can go to On-Board Games in DeKalb Friday night and play their favorite game.

MTG is a card game that involves a lot of strategy and is like playing a very advanced poker game.

John Clemens, one of the owners of On-Board Games, said every night a few people play MTG at the store, but Friday night draws a larger crowd.

“On an average night we have three to 10 people looking to play, so it’s pretty easy to find someone to play,” Clemens said. “On Fridays, we have Friday Night Magic that is sponsored by the company who makes Magic. We usually get anywhere between eight and 16 people.”

Clemens said this Friday will draw an even larger crowd of 30 or 40 people because the new line of Magic cards is coming out.

Sophomore biology major Sean Burke plays regularly at On-Board Games.

“I usually play at On-Board Games and there is usually just a large group of people, in which everyone knows each other,” Burke said. “Of course since there is a turnover in the population that goes to NIU, there are always new people joining our group.”

Erik Harrelson, a sophomore business administration major, plays two tournaments a week at On-Board Games.

“I compete in tournaments on both Wednesday and Friday nights at On-Board Games,” Harrelson said. “They are very fun while still being competitive, and are a good way to meet fellow players and have a good time.”
