DeKALB | If one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, then one Sycamore museum may be a gold mine this week.

The Midwest Museum of Natural History, 425 W. State St., Sycamore, is holding a winter garage sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.

“It’s a different time than when everyone else is having their garage sales,” said Cori Kurth, head of reception and retail operations at the museum.

The museum decided on a winter garage sale when it was unable to hold one in the summer. It also allows people to donate items that may not have sold during summer sales.

Donations from the community have made this function possible, and bargain hunters can find everything from housewares to 8-track tapes still in the original wrappers at this year’s garage sale, Kurth said.

“We have a lot of stuff,” Kurth said. “We had a lot of stuff the first year and even more this year.”

The prices range from 25 cents to $25, Kurth said.

Admission is free, and all proceeds go to the museum.
