December 3, 2007
DeKalb Police arrested John A. Beals, 20, of DeKalb, in connection with a shooting that occurred at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Regent Drive.
Saturday, officers located three NIU students who said they were shot, according to a DeKalb Police Department news release. All sustained minor injuries, but did not require medical attention.
The victims, as well as the suspect, were all at a party on Regent.
The suspect was kicked out of the party because he was acting disorderly, according to the news release. After he left the apartment, he shot several times at the closed apartment door, according to the news release.
Witnesses supplied officers with a partial license plate number and Beal’s vehicle was located in a parking lot in the 800 block of Crane Drive. Beals was located and interviewed along with two of his friends. From the interviews conducted, police believe Beals and his two friends went to the party where the shooting occurred, according to a news release issued Sunday.
Beals was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony.
Beals was booked and later transported to the DeKalb County Jail, pending bond Sunday evening.
