Miller-Jobson leaves NIU, takes position at Baylor

After three seasons at NIU, head women’s soccer coach Marci Miller-Jobson has decided to cut ties with the Huskies.

Miller-Jobson accepted a position to lead the Baylor women’s soccer program, Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw announced Thursday in a Big 12 press release.

“We are very excited about having Marci lead our soccer program,” McCaw said in the release. “She is deeply committed to Baylor’s mission and will be a great ambassador for Baylor soccer … Marci enjoyed great success in turning around the Northern Illinois program while she competed as a professional player and member of the U.S. National Team. We are looking forward to her devoting her full-time energies to building a championship program at Baylor.”

For NIU, the last three years under Miller-Jobson has been a time of rebuilding. The Huskies went 23-27-9 under Miller-Jobson and reached the MAC Tournament twice during her tenure.

In 2006, the seventh-seeded Huskies faced Toledo in the MAC Championship game after posting an 8-11-2 record. It took upsets over No. 2 Ohio in the opening round and No. 6 Kent State in the semifinals to reach the game.

The 2007 season saw even more success, as NIU played to a 10-5-5 record, its best mark since 1998. Seeded second in the MAC, NIU reached the semifinals, but fell to Toledo 4-3 on penalty kicks.

“Our goal is to build a championship women’s soccer program at Baylor,” Miller-Jobson said in the release. “We can’t wait to meet the team and get started moving this program on the path to success that has been traveled by several Baylor teams the last few years. The women’s soccer program won Baylor’s first Big 12 championship [in 1998], and there is no reason that we can’t reach that pinnacle in the future.”

Baylor finished the 2007 season 7-10-2 under former head coach George Van Linder. Van Linder resigned at the end of the season after serving as coach for five seasons.
