Air Force’s athletic Web site has an error.

According to the men’s basketball game preview, the Falcons’ next opponent is a 1-6 team led by first year coach Ricardo Patton.

While this is correct, the academy believes Patton is still coaching at Colorado, not at NIU.

However, Air Force (5-3) will not visit Boulder, Co. Instead it faces NIU tonight at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

The Huskies (1-6) are coming off their first win of the season. Forward Shaun Logan led the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

Logan is currently fifth in scoring for NIU. However, Patton has challenged the senior to improve, as he believes Logan can sustain a higher level of play.

“It was just something that I knew I needed to do,” Logan said of his performance Saturday. “Coach says I can do it.”

While Patton is challenging his players as individuals, he is also challenging them as a team. His desire is to develop a sense of pride.

However, the first-year coach realizes that pride needs to be developed, not inserted, into this program.

One way Patton has tried to achieve this is by having the team sleep in the locker room the night before home games. The players have spent these nights on roll-a-way beds with lights out at 11 p.m.

“I like the locker room. It’s a lot cheaper than hotel rooms,” Patton said. “There’s no texting late at night, no girls. It’s just us. You have to build a sense of pride when protecting your home. It’s a matter of the guys spending some quality time with each other.”

NIU will have to pay close attention to Air Force guard Andrew Henke when protecting its home court. The 6-foot-6 junior leads the Falcons with 14.5 points per game.

Henke has led Air Force in scoring in five games this season. In those games, the Falcons are 4-1.
