Mendota man kills steer with bow and arrow
November 26, 2007
A Mendota man charged with felony criminal damage turned himself in Wednesday after previously shooting a steer with a bow and arrow.
At 8:30 a.m. Oct. 14, Illinois Conservation Police were notified by a cattle farmer that he had located one of two black Angus steers that had gotten out of their pen in the 2800 Block of East Paw Paw Road near Earlville.
The steer was found dead on a neighboring property and had been shot with a bow and arrow, according to an Illinois Conservation Police Department press release.
After investigating, police arrested Joseph Gray, 36, of Mendota and charged him with criminal damage, a Class 4 felony.
The steer apparently walked under Grey’s deer stand, where he had been hunting from, according to the release. The steer was valued at $1,500. Grey turned himself in at the DeKalb County Jail and posted $200 bond.
