Housing Fair to offer advice on off-campus housing
November 16, 2007
If you have questions about the ins and outs of off-campus housing, then the housing fair is the place to be.
On Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a housing fair sponsored by Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Services will be available for students interested in living off-campus. The fair will be located in the Diversions Lounge of the Holmes Student Center.
Jill Zambito, director of Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Services, said learning about off-campus housing options could not be easier for those who attend the fair.
“This is a really easy way for students to get in touch with housing representatives all at once,” Zambito said.
“Representatives from many local apartment complexes will be in attendance to give students information regarding topics like availability and pricing for those interested.”
The representatives confirmed to be at the fair are Varsity Square, Northern View, Horizon, Lincolnshire, University Plaza, Mason, Conley Properties and the Apartment Hunter Guide with more likely to confirm their attendance soon.
“If a student has an interest in any of these housing complexes, they can simply approach a representative’s table and speak with them,” said DuJuan Smith, graduate assistant of Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Services
From 3 to 4 p.m., a presentation will be given by Students’ Legal Assistance to discuss important aspects of off-campus housing that students should keep in mind before signing a contract or lease.
“The presentation will cover topics such as ways to stay on track with bills, choosing a roommate you can trust, what you should look for in a landlord and leasing options,” Smith said.
As an extra incentive to attend, a drawing for an iPod Nano will be held at the fair.
“Everyone who comes to the fair can enter the drawing for free and have a chance to win,” Zambito said.
Students with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Services office at 815-753-9999.
