Track of the day – ‘Over You’

Track of the day: Daughtry – “Over You”
As the holiday season approaches, it’s only appropriate that the track of the day belongs to a yuletide baby: Chris Daughtry, born Dec. 26, 1979.
After facing Simon Cowell’s harsh critiques on the fifth season of “American Idol,” Daughtry refused to accept his fourth runner-up position. He worked hard to become a star and prove the judges wrong.
With bassist Josh Paul, drummer Joey Barnes, and guitar players Brian Craddock and Josh Steely, Daughtry formed his own band that has toured throughout the U.S. and U.K.
“Over You,” from the band’s first album, “Daughtry,” is far from the genre of warm, fuzzy holiday songs. Instead, it falls into the rock genre. The song itself has a theme of broken love and is perfect to listen to on a cold day.
While driving in your car, let Daughtry’s unique voice blare through the speakers. “Over You” uses a sweet vocal style that can smoothly transition into a powerful rock sound.
Daughtry may not have been among the winners’ circle with Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Carrie Underwood, but he certainly deserves his place as a determined vocalist.
After listening to “Over You,” one can only wonder: What is Simon Cowell thinking now?
