Women’s soccer goes 0-1-1 in conference play at Ball State, Miami-Ohio
October 14, 2007
NIU played to a scoreless tie Friday at Ball State and fell 2-0 at the hands of Miami-Ohio Sunday.
The Huskies battled for 110 minutes with the Cardinals Friday, as both teams totaled 15 shots in the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock made three saves and earned her third shutout of the season and the tenth of her career, which ties her for the school record. Goalkeeper Rachael Murphy saved six for the Cardinals.
“We played great against Ball State,” said head coach Marci Miller-Jobson. “We got a little banged up, but we played well on Friday.”
NIU (5-5-3, 2-3-1) out-shot Miami 24-11 on Sunday, but couldn’t come out with the victory. The RedHawks scored in the first 12 minutes of the match and the Huskies never bounced back from it.
“We outshot the other team but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net,” Miller-Jobson said. “We’re a little frustrated because with the amount of chances we had, we would like to have a goal or two.”
Not finishing on chances has been the story of the Huskies’ season. The opportunities are there, but NIU is just unable to convert them.
“Creating the chances is the hardest part and this is one of the best games I’ve seen us do that,” Miller-Jobson said. “We’ve just got to work on that final shot and final pass.”
