Halloween brings to Rockford, Stillman Valley the Trails of Screams
October 17, 2007
Rockford’s most terrifying haunted experience is in its sixth year of terror and screams.
The Trail of Screams goes until Oct. 31 at YMCA Camp Winnebago in Rockford and Camp Medill McCormick in Stillman Valley.
According to Brian Thomas, vice president of R.I.P. Productions, the Trail of Screams at Camp Winnebago includes a 40- to 45-minute walk through different buildings, where guests will experience a variety of clowns, electricity, chainsaws, sawmills, insane asylums, darkness and claustrophobia.
“This year we decided to give our patrons what they wanted – old-school, in-your-face scares,” said R.I.P. Productions President Ann-Margaret Naber.
“We have totally re-themed both haunts with new scenes, new scares and some of the most horrific-looking creatures to date. The Trail of Screams strives to provide quality, professionalism, product and entertainment value to every patron.”
At Camp Medill McCormick in Stillman Valley, visitors will encounter complete darkness, slaughterhouses, fun houses, graveyards, death chambers and crematoriums.
The most popular appeal of the Trails at Stillman Valley is the dark. “We give you flashlights because you can’t see in front of your face, it’s so dark,” said Thomas.
Provided there is good weather, 7,000 to 9,000 people are expected to check out the Trails of Screams this year at both locations. The Trails of Screams are open to all ages, but parental guidance is strongly advised for children ages 13 and younger.
At the end of the trails, patrons are given a card and are asked to give the Trails of Screams a rating from five to ten, with ten being the best. “We’ve gotten quite a few tens in the past,” said Thomas. “About 80 percent of people are pleased with us.”
In 2005, Trails of Screams was voted one of the top 10 haunted attractions in Illinois by HauntedIllinois.com.
“We have a good name, and provide a good show and for a good price,” said Thomas.
