Temple offensive breakdown

By BRANDON MANGIA

Quarterback

No doubt, Temple has been the doormat of the college football world for the past

few years. This year, the Owls have only two seniors on their roster and are 0-5.

However, one reason the future looks brighter for Temple is its redshirt junior quarterback Adam DiMichele.

Despite being winless, DiMichele is fourth in the MAC in yards per game with 223 and has the Owls ranked fifth in the MAC in passing offense. The community college transfer has thrown nine touchdowns and seven interceptions in five games this year.

Running back

Offensively, the ground game has been brutal for the Owls. Temple is ranked dead last in rushing offense in the MAC, averaging only 86.6 yards per game.

Featured running back Jason Harper is averaging 62.4 yards per game with three touchdowns. The sophomore also has 11 catches with 119 yards and two touchdowns.

However, those numbers don’t compare with NIU back Justin Anderson, who has jumped to second place in the MAC in rushing.

Harper played in all 12 games last year as a freshman and finally became the premier back this season

Wide Receivers

Junior wide receiver Bruce Francis comes in as the most experienced receiver for the Owls. The dean of the group led the team in receptions and yards last year and is doing more of the same this year. He leads the team with 20 catches for 340 yards and ranks ninth in the MAC in yards per game with 68.

Sophomore receiver Dy‘Onne Crudup ranks second on the team in receiving, having caught 15 passes for 144 yards.

Like the Huskie offense, Temple also likes to use its tight end a lot. Tight end Kevin Armstrong has 13 receptions for 151 yards. Even though this group doesn’t have numbers that pop, the Owls still average 19.8 points per game, while the Huskies average 21 points.

Grade- C-

Offensive line

Center Alex Derenthal anchors the Owls’ offensive line. Derenthal, a redshirt junior, is a Rimington Trophy Candidate, which is the award given to the best center in college football.

The Florida native was the Owls’ team MVP last season and was named to this year’s preseason All-MAC team.

Redshirt junior Andre Douglas is the only other upperclassman on the line. The rest of the group consists of two sophomores and one freshman. As a unit, the offensive line has given up a MAC-worst 17 sacks on the year.
