Sycamore detective returns to work after on-the-job injury

Sycamore Police Detective Ryan Goodman returned to work Friday after medical leave from a gunshot wound he received in July.

Goodman sustained the wound during the arrest of three people for drug related activities July 19.

Goodman’s injury was caused by an accidental firearm discharge, which struck him in the shoulder, fired by a fellow member of the North Central Narcotics Task Force.

The arrested individuals were charged with various Class X drug offenses.

Sycamore Police Chief Don Thomas said Goodman’s name was not released at the time of the arrest because he still had some cases and he would be working as an investigator after his return.

“We are delighted he is back to work; we missed him these past several months,” Thomas said. “What was overshadowed by the shooting was that he did terrific undercover work.”

Goodman was recently honored by Larry Trent, Illinois State Police director, at the annual awards banquet of the Illinois MEG Directors and Task Force Commanders Association Oct. 11.
