7th Street shooting believed to be gang-related
October 5, 2007
Police are investigating gunshots fired early Thursday morning in the 300 block of N. 7th Street, the incident is believed to be gang related.
Officers spoke to a witness who heard several gunshots and observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed at around 1:38 a.m. An investigation revealed that a residence in the area was a potential target of the shooting. The suspect vehicle is described as an older, maroon or red, full-size vehicle.
It is believed that an occupant of the residence had a confrontation with a group of people prior to the shooting, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release.
Police Chief Bill Feithen said shots were fired at the house from an alley behind the residence, and a bullet hole was found in the siding.
“There is information that has developed through the course of the investigation that would indicate to us that the parties involved have some gang affiliation. Not only the suspects, but the people believed to be in the residence also have gang affiliation,” Feithen said at a news conference Thursday. “In other words, this was not a random type of incident.”
Feithen said the incident is believed to be gang related, and no one has been charged yet.
Police are currently talking with some of the parties involved.
