‘Put Your Records On’ offers serene feeling

With the stress of midterms hovering over everyone, the perfect ‘calm down, life-isn’t-that-bad song’ is Corinne Bailey Rae’s February 2007 hit, “Put Your Records On.”

Bailey Rae knows all about balancing the pressures of college, dating and working. Before she was discovered in 2006, Bailey Rae attended Leeds University to study English literature while also working at a jazz club.

“Put Your Records On” is her way of letting others know that taking some personal time each day to turn up a soothing song and belt the words out can make a rough day brighter.

One of the ever-increasing pressures for young women is trying to live up to the expectations of others to be beautiful on the outside. This song reminds women that beauty means being comfortable in their skin and loving what their dreams and goals make their heart look like.

The song conveys a strong message about people ceasing to focus on trying to change who they are to get attention. Bailey Rae offers the reality that people need to just be themselves.

“Put Your Records On” is one of those songs that makes a person lay down on the bed, stretch out and take a deep breath. Although the song is geared toward women, taking time out of the day to just relax applies to both genders.

“Put Your Records On” is sure to offer the serene feeling of soaking in a bubble bath after a long, stressful day.
