Shelley’s closes for one night last week

Students who were looking for a late-night bite to eat last Thursday night found the popular eatery Shelley’s closed.

However, it was up and running Friday afternoon.

The temporary closing was due to improper filing of the store’s retailer’s occupation permit at the Internal Revenue Service, said Elizabeth Cottrell, the restaurant’s manager and NIU 2005 graduate. This sort of mishap has never occurred before to the restaurant, Cottrell said.

“Business went down a little. We lost all the orders we would’ve gotten for dinner and lunch those days, and late-night is when we’re most active,” Cottrell said.

Cottrell said everything has returned to normal.

Lisa Cannella, junior English creative writing major and employee of Shelley’s, said the closing did not bother her in any way.

“I love it here. The people are fun to work with, the customers are cool and you meet a lot of people.”

The restaurant continues to thrive and be popular among the NIU students.

“Shelley’s is a top-notch restaurant, man,” said Anthony Picart, sophomore psychology major. “This is a high quality place. They got some of the best smoothies I’ve ever tasted, man, for real.”
