Top songs of ’07
October 2, 2007
I know that 2007 isn’t over yet, but the music, so far, has been good. I
need to show some love for songs and albums that won’t get respect on an end-of-the-year list.
17. Modest Mouse – “Spitting Venom”
Anybody who thinks MM went mainstream should understand that they are still
writing the same great music that made them famous.
16. Bomb the Music Industry! – “Depression is No Fun”
This, like most of BTMI’s songs, is an awesome ska song filled with completely
depressing lyrics.
15. Chuck Ragan – “Do You Pray”
The singer from Hot Water Music playing acoustic? I like this way better than
anything else he’s ever done.
14. The Locust – “God Wants Us All to Work in Factories”
If you don’t already like The Locust, this song isn’t going to change your mind
(but you should listen to The Locust).
13. Sage Francis – “Civil Obedience”
This dude can rap. This is way better than the albums that Kanye and Common have released.
12. The Weakerthans – “Sun in an Empty Room”
The Weakerthans are the best active band in the world right now (or at least in
Canada). Anyone who thinks they know what good song writing is should check
this out.
11. The Methadones – “Getting Older/Losing Touch”
If it weren’t for the bands that these guys came from, Green Day and Blink-182
would be working at a Costco somewhere. Show some respect.
10. Feist – “My Moon My Man”
Feist has put out two great albums so far, and Apple execs didn’t even put the best
song in their commercials!
