DeKalb residents offered variety of internet services
October 8, 2007
Promotional offers and speed comparisons allow high-speed customers to shop for the ultimate Internet experience.
Verizon, Comcast and TBC DSL offer DeKalb residents choices that differ in connection speed and price and cater to a variety of needs.
“Verizon had great customer service,” said Brandon Kosinski, senior political science major. “Verizon sent me an e-mail every other day after I ordered the service until installation.”
Verizon offers more consistent speed than Comcast, Kosinski said.
“Verizon did not work with our existing router,” Kosinski said. “If I would have changed anything, I would have gotten the modem with a built-in wireless router that Verizon offers.”
TBC DSL, a local provider, has three broadband Internet plans.
One plan, Internet Service Premium, touts the same speed as Internet Service Standard in addition to offering a spam filter and domain name.
Comcast serves broadband via cable to the DeKalb area.
Currently, Comcast offers two different speeds of service with a special promotion for customers who already use Comcast’s cable TV service.
Chris Anderson, senior corporate communication major, said he likes the connection speed Comcast offers, but was discontent with the occasional slow-down and lost connections he experienced.
“Sometimes Comcast stalls for a second or two when I’m loading a page,” said Stan Treger, junior computer music major. “Also, Comcast could be a little cheaper.”
