DeKALB | NIU’s O’Connell Theatre will debut “Disciples” tonight – the first play of the fall season.

“The Disciples” cast includes senior Kristina Cottone, who had the opportunity to meet writer Andras Visky, as well as ten other wonderful cast members including: Laurence Hickey, Faith Streng, Sean Patrick Walsh, Amy Wilson, Michael Steen, Charles Gardner, Michael Lewis, Samantha Luhn, Jonathan McFarlane and Jonathan Franklin.

“Disciples” is a play which explains Visky’s idea of what the disciples experienced the night before the first Easter Sunday. This summer several cast members of the NIU School of Theatre and Dance’s production “Disciples” traveled to Romania to meet Visky, who certainly is an inspiration to the students through his life story.

Having spent his childhood as a political prisoner in a concentration camp, Visky rebelled by forming the Underground University. He later moved on to work as a Dramaturge at the State Hungarian Theater in Romania, and his most famous work from 2002, “Juliet,” still performs in Budapest.

After performing “Disciples” at the Elgin Area Showcase in August, under the direction of Christopher Markle, director Christopher Hibbard is honored to bring Visky’s play to the NIU O’Connell Theater.

At a cost of $14 for adults and $7 for students, the production is sure to intrigue the mind. “Disciples” first premiered at the Hungarian State Theater in Eastern Europe.
