Former Notre Dame QB talking with Novak

Since Notre Dame released former quarterback Demetrius Jones from his scholarship, Jones has been able to talk to any football coach he pleases.

This includes NIU head coach Joe Novak.

In his Tuesday press conference, Novak said Jones is not currently enrolled at NIU.

“The last I heard, he’s not,” Novak said, according to the Aurora Beacon. “He has got a lot of things available to him.”

However, Novak won’t be able call Jones every day to see what his decision will be. NCAA rules allow Novak to call Jones only once a week.

The last time the two talked, it was for a very short time.

“We made a phone call Saturday and I talked with [Jones] for two minutes [immediately after the 42-35 Huskie win at Idaho],” Novak said. “He had some issues. I was in a hurry to get out of Idaho. He said he wanted to talk [more with Novak]. It’s in his court.”
