Eagles win in NCAA ’08 simulation

By RYAN HAMMERSMITH

The Huskies offense has sputtered at times in its first two games, and it continued to have problems moving the ball against Eastern Michigan.

The Eagles held the Huskies to 239 yards of total offense, and their offense kept drives going by converting 6-of-11 third-down conversions, winning 24-10 in

the MAC opener for both teams.

EMU quarterback Andy Schmidt threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter — one of 41 yards and another of 10 yards — to give the Eagles an early 14-0 lead.

The Huskies’ two-minute drive before halftime was thwarted by a Dan Nicholson interception, and the game went into the half 14-0.

NIU got on the board early in the third quarter on a 52-yard run by Justin Anderson. Anderson finished the game with 13 carries for 102 yards.

The teams exchanged field goals, and Eastern Michigan went up by two scores when running back Pierre Walker ran for a 58 yard touchdown, accounting for the final score.

The Huskies played pretty much mistake free the whole game. The Nicholson interception was the only turnover the Huskies committed for the game.

But the Eagles were better, not turning the ball over at all and finishing with 310 total yards.

Nicholson was 14-for-21 for 158 yards.
