DeKALB | In one hour and 36 minutes, one can see a three-breasted woman, sex in a wheelbarrow and a surplus of penguins.Seem a little outrageous? Not really, considering it’s a Dane Cook comedy. Enough said.

“Good Luck Chuck,” starring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba follows the lucky/unlucky life of Charlie Logan, D.D.S. (Dane Cook). After being hexed at 10 years old for not exposing himself during a game of seven minutes in heaven, Charlie is destined to live a life without love.

Every woman that Charlie has sex with finds their soul mate with the next man she dates, giving him a good luck charm status to desperate women. With beautiful women lining up for his charm, Charlie begins to feel used and lonely until he falls for Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba).

Cam, a klutzy penguin freak, is the only woman in his life who isn’t interested in his charm. The only problem is if they have sex, then she will undoubtedly fall in love with the next man she meets. While the movie was funny and entertaining, it was too over the top.

With so many outrageous things going on and a ridiculous amount of nudity, it seems that the writers were overcompensating for a not-so-strong story line and somewhat unbelievable characters.

While Alba played her role well, the character of Cam Wexler was klutzy to the point where her clumsiness became extremely predictable. Even the character of Charlie’s best friend, a perverted plastic surgeon, was too much. It was enough that he was a pervert who specialized in breast augmentation, but his character was too incredibly ridiculous to bear.

“Good Luck Chuck” is comedic in the same way “There’s Something About Mary” was funny. If you don’t take it too seriously, it’s a great movie to see with a group of carefree friends, but, then again, what other type of movie-goers would willingly see Dane Cook on the big screen?

FYI: The funniest part of the movie occurs during the end credits, so don’t leave the theater right away – you’ll never look at stuffed penguins the same way ever again.
