Police investigate downtown gang-related fight

By ALAN EDRINN

Police are investigating a gang fight that occurred Sunday which may have involved some of the same members as a near shooting on Aug. 26.

The fight began around 6 p.m. in the area of N. 10th Street, when members of the first gang drove by and taunted a member of the second gang with an air gun, said Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department.

After the taunting, two individuals exited the vehicle and instigated a fight with a member of the opposing gang. When police arrived, the altercation had ceased and the members in the car had left.

Kayes said the incident involved the same gangs and some of the same people as the near shooting on Aug. 26 at Shipman Place, between 7th and 10th Streets.

In that incident, a fight believed to be centered around gang activity was reported in the area around 9 p.m.

Shots were reported fired in the fight and shell casings were recovered. No arrests were made from the incident and the gun has not been recovered.

The fight on Sunday is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
