Plank Rd. to reopen following bridge repairs
August 28, 2007
Bridge repair causing detours on Plank Road between Burlington and Rt. 47 has been completed and traffic will begin to flow normally.
Construction to replace a small bridge over Burlington Creek began on July 2 and continued through Aug. 28. Plank Road, also Rt. 20 at certain locations, is a major artery for west suburb and agburb residents traveling to the east suburbs.
“For someone like me, who had to take a couple trips to come to NIU to bring everything I needed for school, the extra time was really inconvenient,” said Sean Kinsella, senior communication major. “But it’s better to be safe.”
Construction was delayed for less than a week due to the rains.
“Burlington Creek could have been considered Burlington River for a few days,” said Chris Kaufmann, project manager of the Kane County Department of Highway Transportation. “The flooding and the rain had little to do with the replacing of the culvert.
Every year, we assess which bridges need to be repaired, and this was it’s year just because of the usual wear and tear.”
