CAB to sell Soldier Field tickets Tuesday

By Ben Gross

The Soldier Field showdown on Sept. 1 might just be the hottest ticket in northern Illinois.

And if you don’t have a ticket, you might have to pay big bucks to get one.

The cheapest ticket on StubHub.com is running at $90. Ticketsoulutions.com’s lowest offer is $160.

And the Ticketcity.com minimum is $176. All of these seats are in the 300 section or higher of Soldier Field.

But for those students who are still trying to find a deal, your last chance may have just arrived.

According to Campus Activities Board president Colleen Murphy, CAB has approximately 105 tickets for the NIU football season opener.

CAB will begin selling these tickets on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the box office in the Holmes Student Center at 4 p.m. Students will be able to buy one ticket and must have an NIU OneCard present to buy a ticket. Tickets will be sold for face value with the price depending on seat location.

Some of the 105 tickets will not be sold though. Instead, CAB will give these tickets away for free as promotional items.

Events that might provide the chance for free tickets include open houses, according to Murphy. All events which will give away free tickets will be advertised, she said.

In addition to selling tickets for the Soldier Field showdown, CAB will also be selling tickets for round-trip transportation from DeKalb.

Transportation will be provided by two coach buses, which have room for approximately 90 students.

Tickets for the buses will be sold separately from those for the game but will also be sold at the HSC box office. Transportation will be round-trip from DeKalb to Chicago and tickets will cost $5. More information on bus departure time and location will be released at a further time.

The NIU football season opener officially sold out when the ticket offices of NIU and the University of Iowa, along with Ticketmaster, were tapped out on July 9.
