Björk’s ‘Volta’ rings with triumph

Björk – “Volta”
Björk stretches back into her roots by including energetic and pulsating rhythm, and ear-stunning sound in “Volta,” released May 8, 2007. The tone of this album rings loudly with triumph, exploration, strength and love.
Björk is known for eclecticism in many artistic fields, primarily through her music; however with that being said, “Volta” can be seen as a mild disappointment.
Each song on “Volta” throbs with passionate tempo and sound. Lyrically, however, Björk’s latest album leaves its listeners wanting more. The Icelandic songstress has been recognized plenty of times over as an expert of musically painting delicate pictures of emotion and experience.
In “Volta”, Björk seems to have lost her poetic grip, leaving her listeners in a semi-suspended state, still hungry for the penetrating balladry conjured up by her words from her previous creations.
Overall, Björk’s latest work is exceptionally innovative when it comes to its sound, but the writing just barely makes a mark.
Concert Review 1
Björk – May 12, 2007
Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre was transported to another dimension on the evening of May 12, 2007. This new realm included consciousness-expanding visuals coupled with heart-stirring music performed by Björk.
The audience was instantly shaken with Björk’s stormy performance of “Earth Intruders” off of her latest album “Volta.” A choir embossed the song by blaring a stunning accompaniment to Björk’s already arresting vocals.
Her performance wasn’t completely dedicated to hyping up and rocking the audience. A more sedate yet blazingly emotional “All is Full of Love” was sung, barely leaving a dry eye in the entire auditorium.
“Hyperballad” was also included in Björk’s set list, and was presented to the audience with a remixed, electronic sound.
An always-captivating Björk successfully created a reality containing insurmountable entertainment and beauty in the form of a prolific music concert.
