Six-hour State Street barricade stemmed from concerned friends

DeKALB | A concerned call from friends is cited as the reason for a police response to a barricaded DeKalb man Tuesday evening in the 1100 block of State Street.
The incident escalated when concerned friends of the man called about his deteriorating condition, said Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department. When police arrived at the house, the man refused to speak to police, and locked himself inside.
The state police tactical response team was brought to the scene as a precautionary measure, Kayes said. The team helped with clearing the house afterward, but no storming of the house took place, he said.
The man was reportedly in possession of one rifle, which was removed from the house after the incident.
The individual was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where it is believed he is still being kept, Kayes said.
