Music Review: Good Charlotte
April 2, 2007
Grade: D | It’s been three years since pop-punk group Good Charlotte has “graced” us all with its presence… and it turns out three years was no where near long enough.
Good Charlotte is generally known and referred to as one of the biggest jokes to hit the punk-rock industry since eyeliner, and their latest release, “Good Morning Revival,” does not disprove that stigma. The group has returned with another overproduced album where all creativity and uniqueness has been thrown right out the window.
After the steady decline from popularity from 2004’s “The Chronicles of Life and Death,” Good Charlotte has tried to deviate from the pop-punk sound that has increased their popularity but at the same time made them outcasts in the punk community. The new album samples a dance-like feel that mimics bands such as The Killers, Modest Mouse and a hint of Fall Out Boy. Only problem is, the album sounds just like those bands, almost as if it is entirely ripped off.
Any slight bit of uniqueness that the band once had which defined them is no where to be found on this disc, and any credibility that was once had will now just trickle to the wayside.
Just another example of a band trying to change with the times, and showing that it isn’t about the music, but about the fat paycheck that gets thrown its way.
