DeKALB | The 15-year-old Cortland resident who was arrested for a stabbing that occurred Feb. 28 will be charged as a juvenile, said Joe Cullen, a DeKalb County assistant state’s attorney.

It was previously reported in the Northern Star that the state’s attorney’s office was expected to prosecute the juvenile as an adult.

The judge’s decision was made based on age, the facts of the case and the juvenile’s lack of a prior police record. The charge is attempted murder, Cullen said.

The incident allegedly occurred in the 1000 block of Fourth Street in the late afternoon.

On Thursday, the state’s attorney’s office will meet with a judge to set a trial date.

The juvenile is being held in the Kane County Juvenile Justice Detention Center in St. Charles.
