DeKALB | A DeKalb man is charged with criminal defacement and battery after spitting on a squad car and hitting an officer with a half-eaten burrito.
After investigating a fight in the parking lot behind Walgreens, DeKalb Police officers returned to their vehicles and saw the suspect spit chewed food on a squad car.
The suspect, Grant M. Swanberg, 26, of DeKalb, approached the squad car, stopped, looked inside and began to spit food on the windshield, the driver-side window and the driver-side door. Swanberg continued southbound on First Street and stopped for a passing train.
Officers escorted Swanberg back to the squad car and told him to clean it off. When finished, officers asked Swanberg for identification. Swanberg removed his wallet from his pocket and as Sgt. Jason Leverton began to take the wallet from him, Swanberg pulled the wallet back and struck Sgt. Leverton in the head with the half-eaten burrito.
Officers arrested Swanberg, transported him to the police station and released him after he posted bond.
