The House Cafe to host Chicago heavy-hitters

By Mat Warrenfeltz

DeKALB | The House Cafe – 263 E. Lincoln Highway – will host one of the last big indie-rock events of the school-year today. The event will feature Chicago natives Spitalfield, Inept, Dr. Manhattan and Last Fast Action. Each band has a little something different to bring to the table.

Spitalfield

The most known and longstanding of the four, Spitalfield has hit the road for a mini-tour around the midwest in support of their 2006 Victory Records release “Better Than Knowing Where You Are.” The band has grown in popularity since the emergence into the Chicago scene back in 1998 where they launched a pop-punk sound which has matured into the sound now that defines the group.

Being seen supporting such bands as Jimmy Eat World and Sugarcult, Spitalfield has reached the point where they are in the same seat as those they idolized and supported throughout their entire career, and have headlined several tours of their own.

Inept

Inept, from Plainfield, has been widely known as a powerhouse live band, riding such national tours in the past as Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos. A harder-hitting, but still poppy band that defines exactly what Chicago-style punk rock has come to be in this day and age.

Having performed multiple times at both the House and Otto’s Niteclub & Underground (118 E. Lincoln Highway), as well as at prestigious venues all over Chicago, Inept have opened for as diverse of artists as the Deftones, Story of the Year and the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. are currently in the recording studio with renowned producer Johnny K (Plain White T’s, Finger Eleven, 3 Doors Down).

Dr. Manhattan

Dr. Manhattan, the least known of the four, provide an interesting mix of electronic and indie rock music, looking to push their sound to a slew of new listeners. Already established in the Chicago suburbs, Dr. Manhattan has played with bands such as The Lawrence Arms and The Felix Culpa and are no strangers to the House Cafe. Back in February, when scheduled headliners Wax On Radio were forced to drop the show at the last minute, Dr. Manhattan admirably stepped up to fill the top spot.

Last Fast Action

Last Fast Action, a new project featuring members of The Dog & Everything and Bound To Change, is looking to make a statement as they show up in support for Spitalfield. The gig in DeKalb is just a quick stop as they make their way around the Chicagoland area. The band will be pushing its latest release, “Season 1,” a four-track EP that was recorded in Dallas last year. Seeing how well The Dog & Everything established a name for themselves as a main attraction around the Chicago music scene, Last Fast Action can only be a step forward.
