Charges may be altered in bartender’s death

DeKALB | The state’s attorney’s office is reviewing the battery that led to the death of Luis Noriega today to determine if further charges will be made.

Noriega died Sunday afternoon due to a post-closing bar brawl. Later that night, the apartment of the suspect was vandalized.

DeKalb police responded to a call at 8:43 p.m. Sunday at 809 Edgebrook Drive. The complainant heard people yelling and breaking things in Apartment 23. An investigation was started.

Police confirmed the address as Nathan Schrank’s residence. Schrank was arrested Sunday afternoon on charges of aggravated battery in connection with the alleged battery of Luis Noriega.

Police said witnesses were unable to identify who was responsible. Police would not confirm whether the two incidents were related.

Schrank’s bond is set at $250,000, and his court case is on continued status until May 2.
