NIU benefits from luck of the Irish

DeKALB | The NIU baseball program will host its annual “St. Patty’s at Fatty’s” event on Wednesday at Fatty’s Pub and Grille in DeKalb.

A silent auction will be held at 7 p.m., with the team’s green jerseys worn during NIU’s St. Patrick’s Day game as the main prize. All proceeds from the event will benefit the NIU baseball program.

“Hopefully by getting the win in our green jerseys, people will be more interested in bidding on them,” NIU head coach Ed Mathey said.

DeKalb sluggers

The Huskies scored a total of 90 runs during their eight-game stand in Florida, posting a 5-3 record.

Senior third baseman Jesse Seykora hit .500 with five home runs and 15 RBI on the trip. In its 13 games, NIU is averaging eight runs a game.

No make-up

The NIU softball team will not reschedule a make-up game with the University of Maryland after the March 15 game was postponed due to inclement weather.
