DeKALB | NIU athletics director Jim Phillips was named a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee.

Phillips begins his five-year term on the 10-person committee on Sept. 1 of this year.

The committee is in charge of the administration of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, which includes the seeding and selection of teams in the NCAA Tournament. Phillips is the seventh male member in the committee’s history.

“This is a great honor to be selected as a member of this committee,” Phillips said.

For the past 18 months, Phillips has served on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Issues Committee.
