March 25, 2007
DeKALB | Between the hours of 8 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, DeKalb police ran alcohol compliance checks for local bars and establishments.
Five people were issued city ordinance citations for selling alcohol or allowing a minor agent of the police department (a person under the legal drinking age hired by the police) into a class A liquor establishment.
The minor agent was able to purchase liquor at Pizza Hut, 701 W. Lincoln Highway; Pizza Villa, 824 W. Lincoln Highway; Sully’s Tavern, 722 E. Lincoln Highway; Otto’s, 118 E. Lincoln Highway; and Bar One, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway. An ID was neither asked for nor checked at Pizza Hut, Pizza Villa and Sully’s Tavern.
Police issued citations to three people with notices to appear for selling liquor to a minor. Those issued citations were Pedro B. Willis-Barbosa, 22, of DeKalb, at Pizza Hut; Kaitlin Ann O’Herron, 22, of Kingston, Ill., at Pizza Villa; and Albert J. Sullivan, 49, of DeKalb, at Sully’s Tavern.
The doormen, Alec G. Dudgeon, 25, of DeKalb at Otto’s and Dustin A. Gray, 22, at Bar One, were issued citations with a notice to appear for allowing a minor into a class A liquor establishment.
Upon entering Otto’s and Bar One, the minor agent’s real ID was checked, but was still allowed entry. The doormen at Otto’s and Bar One said they did not notice the agent was only 20.
While conducting the check, a bartender at Otto’s, Sean M. Crawford, 21, of DeKalb was arrested on an unrelated warrant for a failure to appear for unlawful consumption.
Sergeant Costliow of the DeKalb Police Department said other establishments did pass the compliance check.
Those that passed were, Starbusters, 930 Pappas Drive #D; Sullivan’s Grocery, 1401 S. Fourth St.; Twin Tavern, 1028 S. Fourth St.; K-J’s Tap and Grill, 518 E. Lincoln Highway; American Liquors, 159 W. Lincoln Highway; The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway; O’Learys Irish Pub and Grill, 260 E. Lincoln Highway; and The Bottle Store, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway.
