Man dead after run-in with train
March 26, 2007
DeKALB | DeKalb police responded to a call at 7:10 p.m. Sunday regarding a man lying on the railroad tracks in the 100 block of North 7th Street.
Steven Cutshall, 41, was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was pronounced dead.
While it was reported on police reports that alcohol was involved, Doug McPherson, chief deputy at the Winnebago County Coroner’s office, could not confirm Cutshall’s blood alcohol level.
The incident is still under investigation and the reason Cutshall was on the tracks is still unknown.
“Nobody has mentioned the word suicide at all to us,” McPherson said. “We’re still investigating a death.”
The Winnebago County Corner’s office confirmed Cutshall died due to head injury, and was injured by the train.
Domestic battery charge
DeKalb police were dispatched to Kishwaukee Community Hospital at 8:59 p.m. Friday in reference to a female patient brought in with stab wounds.
The stabbing occurred at American Liquors, 159 W. Lincoln Highway. The suspect, Bennie Bovan, 54, of DeKalb was charged with armed violence, aggravated domestic battery and two counts of aggravated battery.
“Since [the man was charged] with domestic battery, that will tell you there was a relationship [between the suspect and the victim],” said Sergeant John Petragallo of the DeKalb Police Department.
Petragallo said the victim was stabbed at least twice.
Bovan was transported to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, where he was currently being held as of 7 p.m. Sunday.
