Die Hard lives this summer
February 2, 2007
The much-delayed “Live Free or Die Hard,” the fourth film in the popular “Die Hard” series, will finally hit theaters June 29, just in time for the Fourth of July weekend.
This “Die Hard” sees John McClane (Bruce Willis) as a retired police officer who holds a position with the Department of Homeland Security, chasing down cyber punks and bad guys who don’t seem so menacing when their weapon of choice is a handheld computer rather than a hand grenade.
The premise of attempting an economic shutdown of the U.S. hardly compares to the cliched “world domination” or “robbing the world blind” plots of past installments. But however boorish the terrorists’ plan for this upcoming movie may seem, the Die Hard series remains a proven staple.
The film, directed by Len Wiseman, also stars Justin Long (“Accepted,” “Waiting…”) as McClane’s hacker sidekick, who very well could be the key to bringing down the group of cyber-terrorists. Timothy Olyphant (“Deadwood,” “The Girl Next Door”) plays the villain, Greg Pope.
While 12 years between this film and the last may seem a long time, other multi-part movie series have proven otherwise. Sylvester Stallone waited 16 years between “Rocky V” and “Rocky Balboa,” but the film was a resounding success at the box office.
So, plans for this summer: relax, live free and die hard… though perhaps not so much the last one. Yippie kay-yay and you know the rest.
