DeKALB | After a heavy snowfall led to the emergency cancelation of a Student Association meeting Jan. 28, the SA approved a constitutional amendment that allows the speaker of the Student Association Senate to cancel meetings due to weather at Sunday’s meeting.

“I don’t want senators to have to risk their lives to come to meetings,” SA Speaker Robert Batey said.

Also at Sunday’s meeting, junior finance major Jacob Swanson was confirmed to fill a vacancy in the senate.

Swanson, a current member of Phi Sigma Kappa, said he is interested in Greek affairs and the Finance Committee.

“I am pleased to be part of the senate,” said Swanson. “My goal is to improve student involvement on campus and to have a positive impact on the student experience here at NIU.”

The senate approved a resolution to give CRAVE – a non-denominational religious group affiliated with Christ Community Church out of St. Charles – SA status.

“We prepare students for law school,” said political science major Bartosz Mroczkowski. “We plan to help students prepare for the LSAT [Law School Admission Test] and give advice on the application process. We are planning to stage mock trials and have invited speakers to advise students interested in law school.”

Also approved as a student organization was Athletes in Action, a non-denominational religious organization affiliated with the Campus Crusade for Christ.
