Men’s alumni game shows off best of past
January 26, 2007
DeKALB | Some of NIU’s past best and brightest are suiting up again.
Saturday at the Convocation Center, NIU men’s basketball alumni from the past several decades will take the floor 11 a.m. for the seventh annual alumni game. The game is open to anyone holding tickets for the afternoon’s NIU/Kent State game.
Huskie alumnus of 1974 Bill Finacune will be the honorary coach of the Cardinal team, while the Black squad will be led by 1970 graduate and current NIU sports information emeritus Mike Korcek.
Several notable Huskies from the past will be participating in the contest. Two-time Huskie MVP Rodney Davis, former NBA player Donald Whiteside and 2002-03 NIU co-captain Jay Bates will take the court, among many others. Bates is averaging just under 30 points per game in his past three alumni game appearances.
The contest itself is just one of the highlights of the alumni day. The participants will be honored before the start of the men’s game, prior to their post-game reception at Fatty’s Pub & Grille.
