Tire slashing spree cuts across DeKalb

DeKALB | About 25 car owners woke up to find their tires slashed, according to multiple DeKalb Police reports.

The tire slashings occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning on Bush Street, Wood Street and Leonard Avenue, with suspects slashing all four tires on several vehicles.

DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen declined to comment on any leads or suspects, but said this type of case is an ongoing one.

“We certainly encourage people to call us if they hear or see anything suspicious in their neighborhood,” Feithen said. “I would ask people to be extra attentive if they do hear someone outside.”

Feithen said incidents such as this one are usually without motive.

“In the past, we’ve had teenagers who have done these types of vandalism, sometimes slashing tires, sometimes breaking windows,” Feithen said. “It’s unfortunate that they can’t find anything better to do with their time than to destroy other people’s property that they have to work hard to replace.”

The DeKalb Police Department will continue investigation into the incidents.
