Another student gets robbed

DeKALB | DeKalb Police responded to another robbery that occurred in the Varsity Boulevard area Tuesday, marking the third incident in the area this year involving a trio of robbers.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at 12:45 p.m. in a parking lot on the south side of 1110 Varsity Boulevard when three suspects approached an NIU student and asked for money.

Police said the suspects told the victim they had a gun, though they did not brandish one. The suspects went through the victim’s pockets and took an MP3 player. When the student tried to get the item back, one of the suspects punched him and the suspects fled into the University Village complex on the opposite side of Annie Glidden Road.

According to a police statement, the suspects were seen loitering in the 800 block of Crane Drive prior to the robbery.

All of the suspects are described as black men.

The first suspect is described as 5’9″ and weighing 160 lbs. with a large afro hairdo. The suspect was wearing a royal blue Milwaukee Brewer’s baseball cap and a brown jacket.

The second suspect is described as 6′ and weighing 170 lbs. with very dark skin. The suspect was wearing a blue and white jacket and a royal blue knit cap.

The third suspect is described as 5’10” and weighing 200 lbs. The suspect was wearing a brown jacket and light brown hoodie.

The police department’s investigation continues.

This is the third incident in the last six days where an NIU student has been robbed by suspects with similar descriptions.
