DeKALB | Students attending the NIU football game against Toledo today will have a surprise visit from the runner-up band on the TV show, RockStar: INXS.
Marty Casey & Lovehammers are a self-described “working-class Chicago band,” according to their Web site, lovehammers.com. Their hit single “Trees” was the number one download on MSN.com.
“We’re really lucky to get a band like this to come and play for us,” said Todd Garzarelli, assistant athletic director.
The band’s performances include the national anthem at the White Sox opening game this year, as well as opening acts for bands Nickelback, Interpol and Puddle of Mudd, according to lovehammers.com.
Fatty’s Pub and Grill was a key factor in bringing the band to NIU, Garzarelli said.
The band will begin their show at 4 p.m. on the east side of the stadium.
“The event is free to everyone, and it’s B[ring] Y[our] O[wn] food and drinks. It’ll be the same tailgating as a normal football game except with a band,” Garzarelli said.
