Otto’s Niteclub to get Pimped
November 29, 2006
On Friday, Otto’s Niteclub, 118 E. Lincoln Highway, sets the stage for the Goodyear Pimps.
Doors will open at 9 p.m. for the 21 and over event. Ready…Break! is scheduled to open. At press time, no official ticket price had been announced.
In 1994, five musicians from Rockford came together and created the genre collective band know as the Goodyear Pimps. With a very loyal fan base, the band has toured nationally and played countless in-state shows while supporting its four independent releases.
“The Goodyear Pimps have been overlooked by the music industry for a long time,” said Nort Johnson, promotions director and national talent buyer for Otto’s.
The Rockford natives have performed regularly at Otto’s Niteclub for the last 10 years.
“They do very well for us and bring in fun crowds,” said Johnson.
As a punk, funk, alternative rock and even hip-hop act the band cannot be compared easily to other bands.
With the start of December, Otto’s — an alternative to Chicago’s music venues — hopes to bring in more national acts while spreading its legendary history. One restraint the venue faces is not being able to put on all ages shows.
“I would like kids to appreciate music and we can have so many cool bands,” said Johnson.
This fall, the venue started hosting 18 and over shows on Sunday evenings. The city of DeKalb approved the idea of having more frequent, younger-aged events.
