DeKALB | Police arrested a woman Wednesday after she allegedly injured an NIU student in a failed robbery attempt. Police say that the suspect, Sada L. Carr, 19, of Posen, attacked the victim at about 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive. Police said Carr was trying to take the victim’s purse. DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said the attack was unprovoked and unexpected due to the large number of people in the area during that time of night.

“Obviously, our suspect was not thinking clearly,” Kayes said.

Kayes said that during the attack, the suspect slammed the victim’s head into a concrete signpost, resulting in a broken nose. Two passers-by stopped the suspect until police arrived, according to a police statement.

Kayes said the robbery is most likely unrelated to any other recent crimes.

The victim received treatment at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and was later released.

Carr faces charges of robbery and two counts of aggravated battery. Robbery is a felony punishable by up to seven years in the state penitentiary and a fine of $25,000. Aggravated battery is a felony punishable by up to five years in the state penitentiary and a fine of $25,000.

Carr is currently being held in the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office jail.
